Notes:
The U.S. took a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute when Cindy Parlow nodded home a Shannon MacMillan corner kick.
Four minutes later Germany tied the match when Lorrie Fair lost the ball to Renate Lingor in the midfield. Lingor sent a through ball to Martina Muller who beat LaKeysia Beene from 15 yards out for her first international goal.
The U.S. regained the lead in the 51st minute when Mia Hamm lofted a pass over the German defense for Tiffeny Milbrett to run onto. Milbrett outraced German keeper Silke Rottenberg to the ball and touched it over the keeper for the goal.
Hamm tallied a pair of goals a minute apart from each other to put the game away. In the 72nd minute, she intercepted a weak back pass by German Ariane Hingst and made Germany pay shooting the ball into the left corner from 14 yards out. A minute later Hamm ran onto Julie Foudy's headed pass. Rottenberg attempted to get to the pass as well, but the ball skipped on the wet surface and off her right hand to Hamm who finished into the open net.
In the other U.S. Women's Cup match, Bai Jie scored twice as China blanked Japan, 3-0.
