Notes:
The U.S. opened the scoring just five minutes into the 2000 Olympic Final. Brandi Chastain corralled a loose ball and passed to Julie Foudy, who sent Mia Hamm down the left side of the penalty box. Hamm got by Norwegian defender Goril Kringen to reach the endline and unleash a serve towards the goal area. From eight yards out, Tiffeny Milbrett volleyed Hamm's cross into the top left corner.
Norway equalized right before halftime as Hege Riise drove a corner kick from the right side into the box where Gro Espeseth rose to nod the ball into the lower right corner.
In the 79th minute, Norway went ahead, 2-1, when Margunn Haugenes lofted the ball into the box. U.S. goalkeeper Siri Mullinix couldn't reach the ball and Ragnhild Gulbrandsen headed it into the goal.
Down to its last opportunity in injury time, Hamm from the right flank fired a cross into the box, which went over Kristine Lilly, but 5'1" Milbrett jumped into the air and headed the ball into the left corner to send the Gold Medal Game into overtime.
Norway responded in sudden death overtime scoring the golden goal in the 102nd minute when Riise floated a pass to the top of the penalty area. Joy Fawcett rose to head the ball sending it carooming off of Dagny Mellgren left arm. The ball fell to Mellgren's feet and she stuck it under Mullinix's left hand to win the gold for Norway.
