Notes:
Norway scored on its first shot of the match as a Monica Knudsen pass put Marianne Pettersen, with U.S. defender Christie Pearce right on her heels, in on U.S. goalkeeper Briana Scurry. Pettersen dribbled around Scurry and slotted her shot between the recovering Pearce and the near post.

The U.S. equalized in the 63rd minute on a play that began with a Mia Hamm corner kick sent to the near post where Joy Fawcett flicked the ball on. Bente Nordby, Norway's goalkeeper, punched the ball into the center of the box where Nikki Serlenga met it and blasted a shot on goal. Serlenga's shot beat Nordby, but Norwegian defender Goril Kringen was able to get her foot to the ball. Unfortunately for her, the ball knocked off of the back of the diving Nordby and rolled into the goal.

Briana Scurry earned her 100th cap in this match, becoming the first U.S. goalkeeper to reach the century mark.

This match marked the 27th all-time meeting between Norway and the U.S., but the first game ever played between the two sides in Norway. In the all-time series, the U.S. trailed Norway, 12-13-2.
