Notes:
China scored in the 16th minute when Shui Qingxia took advantage of the second miscommunication of the match between Siri Mullinix and Kate Sobrero allowing the Chinese forward to cut between them and push the ball into an open net. Six minutes earlier Mullinix and Sobrero had hestitated while deciding who should play a long flighted Chinese pass over the U.S. defense allowing Jin Yan a path towards goal, but Joy Fawcett swooped in to clear the ball out for a corner kick.
Nikki Serlenga began the sequence leading to the U.S. goal when she sent a pass back to Mullinix. The goalkeeper blasted a clearance up field. The Chinese defense decided to let the ball roll back to goalkeeper Han Wenxia. Mia Hamm, however, gave chase reaching the ball just before it entered the penalty box. Han, outside of the box, reached down to grab the ball, but then realizing where she was on the field, hesitated. Hamm poked the ball free knocking Han to the ground and scored on the open net. The assistant referee had her flag raised signaling a foul, but the referee ruled that although Han had played the ball outside of the box, it was to the U.S. advantage to play on and the goal stood.
In the other DFB Jubilee Tournament match, host Germany took a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute, but Norway responded with four goals in the final 24 minutes for the 4-1 win.
