Notes:
With the win, the USA (3-0) won Group A in Algarve Cup competition. Denmark, 2-0 victors over Portugal, took third place in Group A. Norway, courtesy of a Dagny Mellgren hat trick, claimed Group B with a 3-0 blanking of China while Canada finished third after a 2-1 defeat of Finland.

April Heinrichs moved her record as head coach (3-2-0) above .500 for the first time with the victory.

Mia Hamm, coming on as a sub for just the sixth time in nine years, nailed a low drive into the left corner for the game-winner. Shannon MacMillan set up Hamm for the score. After receiving a pass from Julie Foudy, MacMillan battled Swedish defender Kristin Bengtsson side-by-side for 15 yards before slotting the ball to Hamm.

In the 14th minute, Cindy Parlow headed a potential Sweden goal off the goal line.
