Notes:
With the members of the 1999 World Cup Champion team on strike due to a contract dispute, a young replacement team travelled to Australia for the Australia Cup. They were led by interim head coach Lauren Gregg, as Tony DiCicco, who resigned in November of 1999, had yet to be officially replaced.

Six players earned their first international cap in this match: LaKeysia Beene, Sherrill Kester, Kelly Lindsey, Nandi Pryce, Nikki Serlenga, and Christie Welsh. In addition, all six players who scored did so for the first time at the full international level.

Sherrill Kester became only the second American to score twice in her international debut joining Cindy Parlow (1996.01.14).

Sweden blanked Australia, 2-0, in the second match of the Australia Cup doubleheader.
