National Team Highlights
Captained the National Team from 2001-2004 and was co-captain from 1992-2000.
A central midfielder for most of her career, she played defensive midfielder in 1991, 1995 and 1996, attacking midfielder in 1999, 2000 and 2003 and right flank midfielder in 2004.
One of two U.S. players, Mia Hamm being the other, to score a goal in the 1991, 1995, 1999 and 2003 FIFA Women's World Cups.
Started all six games at the 2004 Olympics. Left the semifinal against Germany in the 60th minute with a sprained right ankle after having it stepped on by Isabell Bachor. Despite her injury, she played every minute of the Olympic Final which went to overtime. Tallied one point at the 2004 Olympics, an assist of Kristine Lilly's goal against Australia in a 1-1 draw.
Scored the game-winner, a slow bouncer through traffic off her own rebound from 17 yards out, to beat Mexico in the 2004 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup Final.
Started five of the National Team's six games at the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup. Scored a goal on a penalty kick against Nigeria and came off the bench to tally an assist against North Korea.
Second on the team in minutes played in 2002 with 1420.

Named to the All-WUSA Second Team for three consecutive seasons.
Started all 20 games in which she played in 2003, logging 1742 minutes while scoring three goals, on all PKs, and adding two assists while helping the Spirit reach the playoffs for the first time. Voted as a starter to the WUSA All-Star Team.
Was second on the Spirit in 2002 with five goals and four assists. Voted as a starter to the WUSA South All-Star Team.
Started 20 games for the Spirit in 2001 and led the team with seven assists, which was tied for the fourth-best total in the league.
A WUSA founding player, she was allocated to the San Diego Spirit.
Collegiate Highlights
Played for the University of Stanford from 1989-1992.
A four-time All-American, she won the 1991 Soccer America Player of the Year and 1989 Soccer America Freshman of the Year awards.
A finalist for the Hermann trophy in 1991 and 1992.
Finished her Cardinal career with 52 goals and 32 assists.
Named Stanford's MVP for three consecutive years, 1989-1991, and won the Stanford Outstanding Freshman, Sophomore and Junior Athlete Awards.
Last We Heard
Married Ian Sawyers in July of 1995. The couple's first child, daughter Isabel Ann, was born on 2007.01.01.
Has a contract with ESPN through 2009 to serve as an analyst for the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup in China and to help on ABC's MLS coverage. She will also provide personality-driven features for ESPN's studio programs including Monday Night Countdown, Sunday NFL Countdown, Bob Ley's Outside the Lines and SportsCenter.
During the summers, runs Julie Foudy Soccer Camps and the Julie Foudy Sports Leadership Academy.
